One hundred and fourteen Year 11 students sat 331 GCSE examinations in twenty different subjects at Acorn Care and Education Schools this summer. Students also sat a further 275 non-GCSE qualifications.
Iain Anderson, Group Chief Executive said: “I am delighted that our students passed 88% of the GCSE qualifications they sat this year. The wide range of qualifications studied, including the essential English and mathematics subjects, and also statistics, law, geography and history demonstrates the commitment of our teaching staff in delivering subjects that are not always taught in specialist schools.”
Mike Blakey, Group Quality and Compliance Director added: “These results reflect the hard work of both our students and staff alike. Half of our schools are judged to be outstanding by Ofsted, well above other independent specialist providers and the levels seen nationally. Some of the most amazing results this summer were achieved at these schools and they really are worth celebrating
For example, a young person, living in one of our residential homes and attending Longdon Hall School, did amazingly well by achieving six good GCSE passes. The team is immensely proud of this success and are planning a big party for her.
Meanwhile, at Oak Tree School in Cornwall, the star of the show is Oliver. When Oliver received his GCSE results, he told us: ‘I’m completely overwhelmed. I am really confident in my future now as I have the results I needed.” Oliver succeeded in gaining thirteen qualifications: seven good GCSE passes including a Grade A in humanities, Grade 7 in English language, Grade 6 in English literature and a Grade 5 in mathematics.
Oliver’s carer, Sarah, said: “I am so proud of Oliver, he has worked so very hard and has never missed a day at this school. He now has the whole world in front of him with these fantastic high grades.
Back in the Midlands, Sam, who attends Longdon Hall School also received his GCSE results. He gained 7 Good GCSE’S including top grades in mathematics and science. He will now go on to complete his A-Levels at JCB academy.”
Mike Blakey continued by saying: ‘We will carry on analysing these results and report back through our governance and quality assurance processes. In addition to celebrating these results our schools are looking to improve even further over the next academic year. During the next few weeks the results from the young people in our foster care division, who sat exams this summer, including Y6 SATs, GCSEs and A-Levels will be collated. Watch this space to hear their success stories over the coming weeks.’
Iain Anderson, Group CEO concluded by saying: “I would like to personally congratulate all of the young people who worked so hard this summer to achieve so well. My sincere thanks also go to the teachers and support staff for their hard work and commitment to the young people that attend our schools, they have much to be proud of.”
