Higher Level Teaching Assistant

Full time (term time) / Permanent

The salary is between £18,000-£20,000 depending on experience.

We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join our close-knot team at Reddish Hall School in Greater Manchester.  The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with complex young people who have a needs ranging from autistic spectrum conditions to attachment difficulties and developmental trauma and be keen to help us develop our therapeutic approach towards helping our pupils achieve successful outcomes.

 

About the School

Reddish Hall is an independent SEMH school situated in Stockport. The aim of the school is to encourage children to achieve and succeed personally, academically, socially and develop their self confidence that will enable them to cope in everyday situations and manage the transition from school to college or work environments. By rebuilding self-esteem and forging positive relationships, our pupils replace failure with success.

Reddish Hall School is part of the Acorn Care and Education Group, the second largest private sector provider of special needs education in the country operating 20 schools for children and young people who have a range of social, emotional and mental health needs and also pupils who have been diagnosed with autism or demonstrate behaviours associated with autism.

About the role

1. To provide high-quality support to a small nurture primary nurture group of up to seven pupils, alongside the class teacher

2. To lead lessons as required when the class teacher attends meetings

3. To plan and deliver small group intervention in co-ordination with the class teacher

3. To observe confidentiality and to support the school’s endeavour to provide excellent teaching and learning for all students.

4. Contribute to the safeguarding and promotion of the welfare and personal care of children and young people

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Pastoral Care

1. Deal with or report to the nearest member of the teaching staff, incidents that are seen or reported regarding pupils’ welfare.

2. Be mindful, at all times, of the school’s Equal Opportunities policy.

Health and Safety

1. Be aware of the responsibility for personal Health, Safety and Welfare and that of others who may be affected by your actions or inactions.

2. Co-operate with the employer on all issues to do with Health, Safety & Welfare.

The successful candidate will have experience of working with complex young people in a primary educational setting.  They will have HLTA status and be confident in leading whole classes and delivering to small groups of children.  An understanding of development trauma and attachment issues is essential, as is a nurturing approach to support.
