FEATURED SCHOOL - November 08

Bramfield House School

Bramfield House School welcomes 45 pupils to the start of the new Autumn term. Six pupils are new to Bramfield House with a seventh pupil starting in the next couple of weeks.

The school is benefiting from the extensive building and refurbishment programme which took place over the summer holiday period. The main school kitchen has been completely refurbished with impressive stainless steel kitchen furniture and utensils.

A new horticulture area has been created and a tutor employed for two days a week. We look forward to enjoying the fruits of their labours in Spring and Summer terms. The plan is to grow fruit and vegetables for use in the school kitchen but also to grow flowers with a view to setting up a mini business venture selling fresh flowers and hanging baskets.

A new food technology room has been created out of a disused classroom. This is near completion with only the walls to be tiled before it can be open to the pupils. This is a very popular subject and this room will be extensively used throughout the 24 hour curriculum.

Bramfield House School works very successfully with boys with an education statement for severe emotional and behavioural difficulties. Pupils come from all over East Anglia with the majority of boys coming from across Norfolk and Suffolk. 35 pupils board from Monday to Friday and the remaining ten pupils travel in daily. There is an extensive range of activities on and off site each evening for pupils to participate in. In the first week of term pupils enjoyed speedway, football, snooker, fishing, trip to the beach, ice-skating, youth club, cinema and golf. Other activities on offer can include go-karting, laser quest,

"I’m sure I’m not speaking for myself when I say a big thanks to all the staff at Bramfield House School who have given us a second chance or even another opportunity to make something of ourselves:

If I look back at how I was two or three years ago, there’s no way I could see myself getting “C”’s in my GCSE’s but thanks to all the staff here, I can set myself a goal of getting those “C”’s.  I can also see myself going to college and possibly changing those “C”’s to “B”’s.

Before I came to this school I would have never been able to set my expectations that high. I was more interested in smoking weed and getting high. Although the staff have helped with my education they have also helped me to be a much better person. They’ve also helped me to see that I’m capable of doing things that I never thought I was capable of. They’ve helped me achieve things I never thought I could never achieve, so I’m writing this to say a big thanks to all the staff before I leave.  To all the staff that have been there for me when I need you most – thanks"  Ronnie C

Ronnie is a year 11 pupil who has been at Bramfield House for two years.
