Care Entitlement

Children and young people have an entitlement to a caring and loving home. For the majority this is provided by the family home. However, for some children and young people a placement in one of our residential school or children homes should meet this need to a an exceptionally high standard.

The effectiveness of this provision can be summarised by the following extracts from OfSTED reports:

“This is a pleasant place to spend childhood school days.”
Bramfield House School October 2007

“The outcomes for young people were of a happy and relaxed group of young people who are supported to voice their ideas and concerns in a safe and supportive environment.”
The Grange Therapeutic School, January 2008

Children and young people must be provided with care which meets their specific needs, takes account of their choices and which:

Protects from danger and harm
Provides with high standards of accommodation which will include
A balanced, varied diet, which takes into account individual need, culture and beliefs
Health care and health education
Provides with appropriate personal clothing and possessions.
Respects their individuality and their dignity
Treats them equally without discrimination
Enables each person to exercise their own personal space for privacy

Children and young people are entitled to be supported and supervised by staff who are appropriately trained.

All children and young people should be stimulated and challenged through:

Access to leisure and other activities which supports their personal growth and development
Opportunities to help and support others
